The Unforgettable Moment: Finding Hope After Loss
I’ll never forget the day I got the shock of a lifetime. I had recently found out I was pregnant again. This was fresh off the back of a traumatic miscarriage that required surgery and a scary trip to the ER 2 weeks after.
I should also mention this was my second miscarriage, I had one prior to having my son.
Upon getting that positive test, my doctor wanted to see me right away given my history. I went in right at 6 weeks 0 days pregnant for an ultrasound just to get a look that things were starting off good. I wasn’t expecting to see a heartbeat because it was so early. To my surprise, we saw a heartbeat.
I think both my OB and myself both let out a sigh of relief. He quickly took measurements and a few photos, and that was that. He said “see you at 9 weeks to properly verify your pregnancy.”
The Shocking News: Twins!
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart -Jeremiah 1:5
At my nine week appointment, the doctor started the ultrasound and before he turned the screen on for me to see, he hesitated.
I could feel his mannerism change and my heart sank. I knew something was off. I remember asking him, what is it?! He turned and placed his hand gently on my knee to comfort me.
Then the totally unexpected words came out of his mouth, “Looks like you’re having two babies!”
I thought it had to be a joke, or maybe I hadn’t heard him right. I had semi-prepared myself to hear the baby was gone in that few seconds of his hesitation, not the complete opposite! I could not comprehend what was happening for a few minutes.
I’m pretty sure I called him a liar and asked for a science lesson of how it was possible. We had planned for this to be our last baby, making us a family of four. But now, I was going to have three children! My next thought was, “How am I going to tell my husband?”
I kept repeating this over and over again out loud. My doctor asked if we should call him. I said “NO WAY, I need a minute, and he is going to need a lot more than that!” This was definitely news that needed to be delivered in person and sitting down.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future – Jeremiah 29:11
Finding Peace in the Plan
Once the initial shock wore off and my mind cleared, I began to see the miracle in it. I knew, deep down, that every moment in life was by God’s design, even when it was unexpected. The overwhelming fear I had felt during all of my previous pregnancies faded away, and a sense of peace washed over me. I knew this was God’s plan, not mine.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose – Romans 8:28
The Sleep Struggles That Led Me to My Calling
When I think back to those first six months with my son Owen, I remember how hard I struggled. Everything seemed to be hard with him starting at the newborn stage. Breastfeeding didn’t come easy, and sleep seemed non-existent. The sheer exhaustion and frustration of not knowing how to help him sleep was one of the hardest experiences I had ever faced.
At the time, I didn’t have the tools or knowledge to make it better, and the sleep deprivation left me feeling powerless as a first-time mom.
Owen was the reason I found my calling as a sleep consultant. Through my struggles with him, I discovered how crucial sleep was—not just for babies, but for parents too. Once I learned how to help him sleep, it changed our lives. Sleep training gave me the tools and confidence I needed to help Owen, and it transformed our family dynamic. I felt like a better mom—more present and patient.

Preparing for Twins With Sleep Training
After a few years of sleep consulting under my belt, when I looked ahead to welcoming my twin girls, I felt prepared. I knew God had equipped me with the wisdom and tools I needed to care for them, especially when it came to sleep.
Every sleepless night I experienced with Owen wasn’t in vain; it had been part of the process to get me to that moment. I truly believed God had been preparing me all along for this journey.
For all the moms out there who feel like they are drowning in sleep deprivation, I want you to know there is hope. Sleep training can be life-changing, and it is okay to seek help.
I am so glad that I did. Once I had the right tools, I was able to start from the very beginning with my twins and encourage good sleep habits from the start. I am proud to say that both of my girls were sleeping 11-12 hours a night by 12 weeks old.
You don’t have to struggle alone like I did the first go around. I am living proof that with the right support and guidance, those sleepless nights could be transformed into restful ones—for both you and your baby. And trust me, a well-rested mom is a better mom!
